Kellie-Joanne & David's Wedding

On 26 July I was invited to be photographer at the wedding of Kellie-Joanne and David at their beautiful home in Baumber, Lincolnshire.

After the ceremony I took the bride and groom away for a while to capture their stylised, romantic couple pictures. This field had not yet been harvested and I couldn't resist this shot with the gorgeous view behind and the big Lincolnshire sky. The sun shone and made a wonderful natural spotlight on the couple.

Julie & Lee's Wedding

I shot Julie and Lee's wedding on 20th July on a gorgeous sunny day. Their wedding was held at the Ripley Castle Estate with Julie getting ready at The Boars Head nearby, the ceremony at Ripley Church and the reception was held at the stunning Ripley Castle.

Julie carried orchids on her wedding day - my favourites! The bridesmaids wore corsages of orchids on their wrists. i just love capturing little details like these.

Emma and Simon's Wedding

Last week I shot a wedding in Leeds and my friend and fellow wedding photographer Brian Harte came along to shoot with me. We had so much shooting pictures for Emma and Simon and LOVED their very stylish and fun wedding day. The wedding ceremony was at Leeds Civic Hall and we got some great results shooting these pictures with an urban feel.

Emma and Simon had their reception at home and a marquee in the garden. Every room in the house had a theme - here's Brian and i trying our luck at roulette in the casino room!!!

Congratulations to Emma and Simon and thank you for inviting me to be a part of your wedding day. A huge thank you to Brian for shooting pictures alongside me all day and getting some amazing shots.

Yorkshire Brides Annual Wedding Industry Awards

I have been working on my entry for the third annual Yorkshire Brides Wedding Industry Awards this week. Not only will my work as a wedding photographer be judged against other wedding photographers from the Yorkshire region but also a secret shopper will have contacted me to assess my customer service to my prospective brides and grooms. Customers past and present have been filling out customer service cards to comment on their thoughts about me, my wedding photographs and overall service. eek!!

One of my brides from last year, Lisa Arnot contacted me to say she had left this comment:
"Annemarie has an exceptional style and approach to her work and outstanding attention to detail... (she)has a confident, professional manner and made me feel relaxed and at ease in front of the camera."

Amanda & Jason's Wedding

Amanda and Jason got married on 12th July and chose Fountains Hall at Fountains Abbey for their ceremony. A location that has to be every wedding photographers dream! A gorgeous sunny day, we shot pictures amongst the ruins before heading off to the Raggalds Inn where I shot one of my favourite pictures of the day - the wind blowing Amanda's veil.

Tina & Andrew's Wedding

I had so much fun shooting Tina and Andrew's wedding pictures last week on 11th July. After the ceremony at York Register Office they treated their guests to a sightseeing red bus tour of York.
Everyone had great fun chatting and sipping champagne as we learned a little more about this beautiful city before heading off to Judges Lodgings for the reception.

Kelly & Richard's Wedding

I just loved shooting kelly and Richard's glamorous wedding on 5th July. It was a stormy day in Leeds but that didnt stop us shooting some dramatic images when the sun shone through.

Kelly looked amazing in a stunning red wedding gown

Kelly and Richard chose to hold their reception in a marquee decorated with flowers, on a hill high above Leeds City Centre. An amazing view!

Bryony and Ashley chose The Hospitium in York for their wedding. It is a stunning, medieval building right in the heart of historic York. I love shooting pictures there. We used the building as a background but also found time to shoot some stunning romantic images of the couple by the riverside, a short walk away.

Lucinda & Andrew's Wedding

Lucinda & Andrew married on 24th May at the beautiful Priory Church at Bolton Abbey.

We shot pictures on the bridge there and up on the moors at the cow and calf at Ilkley ... such a special place with a wonderful view.

It was such a windy day Lucinda was holding her veil in place!!

How To Win A Major Award - With Your Eyes Shut

The winning image that gained me BIPP Yorkshire Avant-Garde Wedding Photographer of the Year. It means so much to have my wedding photography recognised in this way. This is the interview that appeared in York Press last week about my recent award.

A stunning raven-haired young bride has helped a local photographer win a major award – and she did it with her eyes shut.

Kate Blacker (31) a Leeds-based solicitor was welling up with emotion a few minutes after marrying her chartered accountant fiancé, Steve – and that’s when York wedding photographer, Annemarie King, clicked her camera shutter to capture a very special moment in time – and claim the prestigious Yorkshire Avant-Garde Wedding Photographer of the Year 2008 Award from the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP).

Said Kate: “Annemarie is a remarkable photographer – and we are thrilled that she has won a top award with this wonderful photograph.
We had just completed the ceremony at the Register Office and I was really starting to feel quite emotional. Annemarie sensed that we needed a short break so she whisked us off to the Bar walls and took the winning shot from high above us.
I was feeling so emotional I just closed my eyes for a moment as I threw my arms around Steve – and Annemarie captured the moment perfectly.”

Annemarie, who has been a professional wedding photographer for 16 years and shoots over 50 weddings county-wide each year, picked up the coveted title following a unanimous vote from the judging panel.

She said: “I used to do portraits as well but I became so passionate about recording that special day for the bride and groom that I stopped the studio work to focus solely on ‘big day’ photography.”

“I always get to know the couple a few weeks before the shoot so I get an idea of exactly what style of images they need. Steve and Kate wanted a portfolio of dramatic but quite informal, reportage-style pictures - so that’s what we did.”

Added Kate: “I wanted to commission a female photographer because I think they instinctively see all the little detail about a wedding day – often more so than men.
I felt more at ease being photographed by a woman, especially about some of the more intimate ‘getting dressed’ shots.”

Husband Steve added: “Annemarie took some great pictures – and there are a couple of quite intimate pre-nuptial shots that I promise you no male photographer would have been able to take.”

Annemarie spends at least three days after the event working on post-production techniques to make sure every image is perfectly presented.

“I just love this job” she said: “Many brides really want a woman to be holding the camera on their big day. Weddings - it’s a girl thing!!”

Sarah & Richard's Wedding

Sarah and Richard chose 2nd May for their special day and it was a beautiful traditional English wedding. I started the day at the brides home and shot some of the fun that unfolded there before heading off to the church - the fabulous Ripon Cathedral. The reception was held nearby at Newby Hall where I shot this picture of the couple.

Yorkshire Avante Garde Wedding Photographer of the Year

I have just returned from my holiday to find out that I have been awarded BIPP Yorkshire Avante Garde Wedding Photographer of theYear 2008.

I am so excited to win as I worked really hard last year to build my own unique style of wedding photography.

The winning image is the bottom picture of Kate and Steve Blacker taken on the bar walls in York.

I also won two merit awards - one in the avante garde section and one in the classical wedding category.

On Tuesday i visited the NEC, Birmingham for the annual trade show that is a MUST for every professional wedding photographer!

I travelled with my photographer friend Grahame Mellanby from Imaginart. Grahame shoots amazing pictures all over the world and supplies luxury framed images to all the best hotels and offices.

What a great day we had - up to our eyeballs in photography gadgets and kit and all the lovely new things that Canon are offering!!

Last week i was out for a drink with my friends Richard and Amanda from PapaKata.

PapaKata provide Indian tipi style tents as a beautiful alternative to the more traditional wedding marquee.I love them!!!!

Amanda and Richard started out as customers of mine - i fell in love with their wonderful PapaKata wedding day and we became good friends. See the slideshow of their amazing wedding at Acaster Malbis near York, here

We had a great evening chatting and agreed that we all love the wedding business - such a happy time in people's lives.

My postman has just delivered my copy of Yorkshire Bride Magazine. I am really delighted to see that the editor chose one of my wedding couples - Ruth & Anthony to feature in a beautiful glossy double page spread all about their wedding.

Ruth & Anthony had a very stylish and unusual wedding at Hotel du Vin, Harrogate.

I was excited to be asked to be their wedding photographer - some of my favourite images included the couple and all their friends leaving for honeymoon on a red double decker bus, detail shots and a dramatic shot of the bride lit with a spotlight.

London Convention

Last week I spent 3 days at the annual SWPP photographers convention in London.

WOW!!!!! What a great place to learn from some of the best wedding photographers in the world! Inspiration from Australia, Ireland, USA, and Canada.

I managed to source some unusual and exciting new products to offer my couples in 2008, grab some new kit ( we photographers love our gadgets!!) and learn and exchange ideas with friends old and new.

I just can't wait to get started on my weddings for this season!!!
